Abaddor’s Wall of Shame
People can be very proud of their killboards. My own corp is proud of theirs (in good times). I’m not much of a PVP’er, though, and currently am too much of a noob to have any characters capable of taking on most of the troublemakers roaming around New Eden. In thinking about what I could do to add content to the site, I tried to think of some memorable moments from my game time so far. Well…nothing has been quite as thrilling as the rush you get when somebody has you webbed, scrammed, and is about to blow you up. Please don’t take this as an open invite to blow me up, however, because it’s not a happy kind of thrill…just memorable.
So, here it is, Abaddor’s Wall of Shame
I was just a young pup in a badger, picking up some cargo containers that I got a good deal on in a 0.41 system. Welcome to Low-Sec. I sent the obligatory noob WTF evemail, but recieved no reply. He podded me too.
My first can flipping. I returned to pick up some ore only to find that the white diamond was gone and replaced by a yellow one. I opened it, thought yup, that's mine, and given that nobody was around, took it. Zantsekuken was cloaked. Badger 2 in the same day. I sent a polite evemail asking some noob questions and got some very handy advice. Very nice guy.
This one can flipped me in a Rifter, evidently spoiling for a fight. T1 frigate, I thought, I can take that in my Cormorant. Uh...no. T2 200mm autocannons eat Cormorants before breakfast. Don't think she spoke english, but later fleeted up with me, gave me a named ECM mod worth almost as much as my ship, warped me to my wreck so that I could loot it, and took off. Nice.
This guy was harassing our corp for a few days. He showed up at a mining gang of ours and somebody had auto-targeters on (oops). Well, he flipped, turned red, and the screaming started. She lost an Apocalypse fitted with a lot of mining lasers. He was in a Mauller. I came back with an Osprey fit to kill (something, what I'm not sure) and lost it. Came back later in a Cormorant to salvage and loot after he was gone, but he was back. Got webb/scrammed and held hostage until somebody agreed to a 1v1. We pretty much took a shove-it stance and he proceded to put me into structure in 15 seconds. I ejected, but he told me I could have the ship back. Bully, but some honor. He ended up with a dressing-down from his CEO, who evidently wasn't in the mood for a war dec.
Our corp was under a series of 6 war decs, 4 at a time at the most, and I was hiding in The Forge, in Otela, trying to get on with my mining. Kut evidently had spies with a list of WT names and he found me. He was flying an interceptor so he got me tackled pretty quick and blew up my retriever and podded me. Well, war is war, no hard feelings. He traded my frozen corpse to a corp-mate and I still have that as a souvenier of my first war. Also had a short chat, nice fellow, told me about the spies. I was curious how he found me.
Lessons
So, what have I learned from these experiences? You’re going to loose ships, that’s part of the game. You’re going to loose clones, but not everybody will pod you. Finally? Only one out of five people that kill you is a jerk, the others are nice (or graciousely don’t respond to noob hate mail). And even the jerk is decent and will talk to you in a civilized manner.
The biggest thing to remember when you loose a ship: It’s a game.
The biggest thing to remember before you loose a ship: Don’t fly what you can’t buy!
