I need some suggestions as to how to move forward with Manufacturing in EVE. I am going to break things down into manageable chunks.
Current Situation: I am part of, and fill a director’s roll in, a very much “CareBear”, highsec corp in New Eden. Both charaters (2 accounts) are members.I am good friends with a number of the members, and very much enjoy our interaction.
My Gallente, Rayne, is very much industrially focussed. Around 11.5 million skill points. He can fly up to a full T2 fitted Battlecruiser (T2 light drones, but T1 others), can fly a Hulk, and is working towards an Orca. He currently is doing Gallente T2 Starship manufacturing of Frigates (Ishkurs, Taranis, Helios), and an Ishtar. These are all for the corp and with the corps resources, though he does do the R&D for the Starship Engineering cores and the Mechanical Engineering cores.
My Caldari is more pure pilot. He flies a fully T2 fitted Drake and a rigged Iteron V.
Our corp is very focused on being there for the new EVE pilots that need a less threatening and risky environment to start with. This leads us, as a corp, to not be willing to even make a spur effort out to lowsec, nullsec, or into wormholes. We prefer not to do anything that might cause someone to Wardec us, though it has happened.
My “desires”: Not sure if that is the right word for them. Anyway, I want to be able to do the Manufacturing process from one end to the other, T1 to T3. I want to be able to operate POS moon miners to gather the stuff, take it through the simple and complex reactions, and into the components and make stuff that “we” sell. I want to go into the wormholes and do reverse engineering on the sleeper stuff to build T3 subsections.
Other: I have no PVP skills at all. Not just character skills, but personal skills. I am slowly getting to the point that I am willing to risk losing a ship or a pod and it not being the end of the world. The idea of being out in null sec, or in W-space intrigues me, as does the idea of heightened risk and PVP. I want to try everything in EVE, maybe not all at once, but I am not adverse to any parts of it, except maybe piracy, and that may change too.
However, I hate to leave behind the corp that helped me get started, and I don’t want to leave them in the lurch trying to find someone to take over my roll. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely replaceable in the corp, but I don’t want to screw them over that way.
I post this in hopes that a number of you read it who have done these things, and can offer me advice, alternatives, suggestions as to where to head from here.
Thanks in advance.

Hey noticed this post and it caught my attention. Been watching your blog for a while and nice job so far. Anyway back to the point at hand, I might be able to help you out at least with the Tech 3 angle of things. I am personally working an alt up to head that direction. I appreciate what your saying about not wanting to leave friends you have made in the lurch. Please contact me by mail or private convo on my main character Vralen and we can talk a bit more see if we can both be of some help to each other.

Sorry, let me get this straight, your want to explore things that you don’t have a chance to at the moment due to your corps particular approach, and are looking for advice on what your options are?
Or are you looking for advice about the manufacturing side?

Both, actually.

Well, unfortunately, the two are mutually exclusive. Tech 2 and Tech 3 both require low sec POS access if you want to do end to end manufacture, and Tech 3 of course also requires access to a Wormhole.
In all honesty though, I’d suggest putting Tech 3 on the backburner for now. Try and get yourself in to Tech 2, which can be done without the low sec POS if you’re willing to buy the advanced components. It isn’t end to end, but in all honesty, if you’re interested in maximising profit per day rather than end to end profit, building the components isn’t the way to go anyway.
And strictly speaking, building the tech 2 components requires moon minerals anyway, and you aren’t going to see the high end minerals unless you’re a major alliance, so you’ll have to buy something whatever happens.
Personally, I’d suggest getting tech 2 off the ground in high sec, then, once you’ve done that, share your dilemma with the corp. Tell them that you need to broaden your own personal horizons, and hopefully you can sway them. If not, then you can walk away knowing that you’ve left them better than when you arrived

If you really want to get your PvP feet wet, then buy whichever race’s T1 combat frigate you can fly and use all standard unnamed t1 equipment, but 50 kits and practice practice practice.
If you do the T1 path for training, the whole training operation will cost you almost nothing.

hey there, use your two players to your advantage. If your gonna be a PvP’er do it in something other than A Caldari ship, pilot race matters not. Gallente/Amarr are very good ships followed by Minmatar ( due to the heavy skill investment needed) so have the character you want to pvp with train up the engineering skills then the weapon skills, then the ship skills. start w memory/intellegence then go perc/ will.
Have your other character do industry.
The reason behind this is PvP takes money ( not a ton but some money) and your industry character can generate that, or even better build the mods/ships.
For some PvP training you can look up Agony unleashed ( they are paid by you to teach you how to PvP) once your skills get to where they /you want them to be.
I appluad the interest in other avenues of play. convo me any time if I can help I will.

There is such a thing as growing out of your corporation in EVE. The trick here is both the CEO and the Pilot need to recognize this fact of life. It can happen on both sides. The CEO can take the corp in a direction the pilot just doesn’t want to go or the pilot can want to start doing stuff the corp is not prepared to support.
It’s at this point you need to make a decision to stay with your current friends and or branch out to other corporations. Make use of alts to do different things etc…
The thing is you can’t do everything in EVE at the same time. So plan what you want to do and take the steps to make it happen.
One possibility is to advise your corp you’re taking a month or 3’s sabbatical to go learn PvP in faction warfare. As per usual advice, build up a reserve of T1 fitted frigates to start with and dive in. It’s the only way. Stick to the affordable stuff.
As for the fear of wardecs your corp will just need to get over that. One nice thing about wormhole life is that wardecs are kind of a “why bother” thing. They come into the wormhole and we can attack them regadless of wardec situation. If most of your operations are in wormhole space you can usually wait out high sec wardecs or use them as opportunities to attack your wardec’ers. Unpredictable wandering bases are great for unpredictability.
The one thing that is unlikely until things change is doing full chain T2 manufacturing. Moon goo is moon goo. You need to be in low sec/0.0 k-space for that. Which means large alliances or being a pet. As an asside there is a lot of cross pollination between T2 and T3 manufacturing. T3 you can full chain. But you’ll need to make sure you have your combat ships up to snuff in order to tackle the necessary core ladar sites (for the c320 and c540). The rest can be soloed.

Thanks everyone for the input. It has been very informative and has given me a lot to think about. Oh, and I do have another In Character post coming, but it is taking a while as I am trying to ensure it fits within the existing fiction on New Eden. And yes, there will be pictures.

Okay, so I have been following your blog for a while, and your establishment in W-Space sounds interesting. So, lets say I was interested in eventually joining your Corp and Alliance, what would you be looking for in a new member? Don’t worry, I don’t mean to put you on the spot, I am throwing this out as a hypothetical. I have never been out of Empire space, at least not for more than a few jumps, and have no idea what really goes on out there, so I am curious as to what Corps and Alliances like yours do on a daily basis. You don’t necessarily have to post the response here, but if you don’t mind sending through a personal email, I believe mine is here somewhere.
Oh, and question, even in W-Space, you have to be a Corp to set up a POS, right? But you don’t have to have any particular faction standing do you, as the Wormholes are not Empire controlled?
