This may be a little out of date…

DecOfWarpodcastlgogOk, due to a few technical difficulties with our hosting here is DOW Episode 10 in it’s emergency new home.

The links may change, but the time it’s taken us to get this thing published is just starting to get a bit silly, so we’ve had to take drastic measures.

As you’ll hear it’s just a wee bit out of date, so we’ll look to do a Christmas one at some point.

Declarations of War Ep 10.

Thanks to Chribba for EVE-files hosting services

News update for those that are interested: Alek has stepped down for the Chrimbo period and appointed Taram as the new Lord High Emperor of All That Is Noir.

We’re still accepting contracts over the holidays…

…so, if you have a problem, if no one else can help,

and if you can find them, maybe you can hire…

Nearly here: Episode 10

Dominion Has ArrivedIt’s been a while but we’re happy to announce that finally Episode 10 of the Declarations of War podcast is ready to be released and will be up here in the next few days.

DOW, like Noir. itself, is a combined affair and takes the efforts of a number of different people to work, hence the occasional delay.

Now is as good a place as any to take the time to thank the following for their contributions to the production of the podcast since it’s inception:

Alekseyev Karrde – The man with the vision
Taram Caldar – The guiding hand, XO  and power behind the throne
Jimer Lins – Long time stalwart of Noir., publisher of DOW, and he of  “Jimer’s Rants” fame.
Erichk Knaar – Editor with flair and Officer extraordinaire
McCreary75 – Solid contributor and the man who calls it as it is

Nidia Masters – He who combines knowledge and skill with the ability to annoy

Without forgetting all our guests, including Vuk Lau and Luminus Aardokay.

To everyone that’s ever listened to DOW, we salute you and assure you that we’re here to stay.

Here’s to all Noir. pilots both current and past, and specifically a big thanks to the officer corps not already mentioned, namely Nightjester and Oxana.

Here’s to 2010

See you in space, whoever you are…

Declarations of War Podcast Episode Nine!

Welcome to the Declarations of War Podcast Nine! Apologies for delays- as always, it’s Jimer’s fault. I’m being punished by not being allowed to be in tonight’s cast. So, no rant from me. :(

Truth to tell, my computer decided it prefers to imitate bricks than spaceships, but a new motherboard is coming this weekend.

Even more exciting, I haven’t listened to it yet! So I don’t have the agenda for you. It was edited by the inimitable Erichk Knaar, who gets nowhere near the credit he deserves for- well, for anything, really. It’s appreciated!

Enjoy the podcast! I know I will.

Quick edit: Go check out http://www.planetriskshow.com/ because they freaking rule and are guests on this episode!

Lowsec and Fac Warfare (CSM)

Got a request for my opinions on this from Laedla Ququve. It’s quite! an involved pair of subjects but out of respect for everyone’s time I’ll try to be brief and to the point, leaving room to expand later as needed.

LOWSEC:

There’s a lot to love about low security space. I can say this from experience as a new player who learned PVP as part of an anti-pirate corp based in the lowsec around Stacmon. I can also vouch that several small alliances have been successful in carving out some lowsec for themselves; we’ve been contracted against quite a few of them. All this was before the boost to 0.0 ratting.

So I’m of the opinion lowsec is not nearly as bad off as is hyped. What i DO think is that the risk/reward compared to empire is way off. I’d like to see more exploration sites moved out to lowsec in combination with a reduction of all empire lvl 4 agent quality to 0 or lower. Adding pirate missions (for pies by pies) has been an idea floated. I wouldnt be opposed to it but most pirates I know pirate for PVP not PVE; still, wouldn’t be against it. These changes will hopefully increase traffic to lowsec a bit.

Now part of my platform is including mercenary work formally into the game mechanics. A related aspect to this is finally fixing the bounty-hunter concept that the current bounty system makes irrelevant. Providing rewards for people to actively engage in anti piracy will provide some protection to non combat players as well as more PVP for the pirates. Win-win.

FACTIONAL WARFARE:

Full disclosure, this is the one aspect of the game which i legitimately have little experience with. However there’s one issue that has been glaring to me since it’s release and another that I’ve heard come up.

People have raised the issue that the Caldari NPC plexes are a bit unbalanced compared to the others due to EWAR. Minor issue, but if it’s impairing a level playing field and thus an enjoyable experience for Gal/Min players it should be looked at.

BUT WAYYY MORE IMPORTANT: making sure all that hard plexing and pvping pays off by making system control have tangible consequences. Having FW PVP result in loyalty points for participants was an excellent step at encouraging participation and combat. But you also want to reward those that take the extra step and win. I havn’t settled on any ideas specifically, but some perks for the factions that control a given system I’d like to float to the other CSM guys are: reduced office rent/increase rent for enemy factions, small chance of Navy spawn getting involved during PVP to “help”, and long term changes like agent relocation.
