7 month chart for EACS

No Comments »

Another month has passed, so time for an updated chart!

In June the number of users has grown, with the average for the month at 12 users per dan and the long term average breaking the 9.0 mark. The last dip in number of users was in May, just before EACS announced its large expansion in Caldari and Amarr regions.

Rules to stick to while in EACS: also no hassle!

No Comments »

Occasionally I get asked what rules people should stick to while in EACS, and the answer is pretty simple: you can do whatever you normally do!

Things such as mining, trading, and producing are obviously fine, but other things are fine too:

  • You can run missions for any corporation or faction you like (corp tax rate is at 0%,  so you won’t lose any of your rewards);
  • You can engage in PvP! EACS members have been known to participate in 0.0 warfare (reportedly even scoring a Mothership kill) and as far as I am concerned low sec piracy is a perfectly honest profession;
  • I can’t stop you from scamming, can flipping, or ninja-looting/-salvaging, but I would appreciate if you’d keep a low profile while in EACS due to the effect these actions might have on EACS’ reputation.  If you must do these things, please leave EACS as soon as you’re done getting your jumpclones.

One thing that might be considered a ‘rule’ is the general principle of being nice to your corpmates. That means not shooting corpmates and behaving while in chat. So far I’ve only kicked one user from EACS for being an utter ass (and that was after he got his jumpclones!).

The only thing I enforce strictly is the 5-day maximum stay in EACS, but that’s not really a rule of behaviour. Anyone who’s been in the corp for 5 days will be removed, no exceptions are made to this.  I would appreciate it if you left of your volition before the 5 days are up since that saves me the hassle of having to kick you ;-)

Note that you’re always welcome to rejoin EACS at a later time (even if you got removed by me) to get more jumpclones!

Using EACS to move your medical clone

No Comments »

The hundreds of offices of EACS have an interesting side-effect. Though EACS’ primary purpose is to provide jumpclones, EACS can also be used to move your medical clone to a more convenient location!

Medical clones can be moved for a small fee, but only to a limited number of stations. The can be moved to:

  1. The station you’re currently in;
  2. The stations of the NPC corp you started in;
  3. Any station where your corporation has an office.

That last point means that while in EACS you can move your medical clone to over 300 locations all over the universe! So if you’re joining EACS to get some jumpclones, check the location of your medical clone and see if you might want to have it moved to a more convenient place.

Finding the office/facility closest to your current location

No Comments »

Even though EACS has over 300 offices and more than 400 jumpclone facilities, users (especially new players) often wonder which office/facility is closest to their current location. With so many options to choose from, it can be hard to determine which is closest!

I’ll explain a way here to find out where you want to go:

  1. Go to the jumpclone service page and select the region you’re currently in in the right-hand menu.
  2. Add up to 10 systems with offices/facilities (depending on what you’re looking for) to your autopilot by searching for the system in ‘People and places’ and selecting ‘add waypoint’.
  3. Go to the star map (F10) and select the ‘autopilot’ tab in the World Panel. Click ‘optimize waypoints’.
  4. The closest of the 10 systems is now listed at the top!
  • If there are more than 10 offices/facilities in the region and you think the one you found at 4 isn’t close enough, remove all waypoints but the closest one and add 9 new systems. Optimize the autopilot again.  Rinse and repeat until you’ve had all offices/facilities in the region or until you’ve found one to your liking.

Note that using this method you will often get the closest location, but not always. This is because it only tells you to look in the region you’re in. If you’re near the border of a region, a system in a neighbouring region might actually be closest. There’s no way around that other than knowing your area, but since you’re trying to find out which office/facility is closest I guess you don’t know your area by heart yet ;)

Also note that if there are a lof of offices/facilities in the region, finding the closest might take some time. Instead, consider settling for any one office/facility which you consider ‘close enough’, for instance within 2 or 3 jumps.

Medical clones and jumpclones, confusing?

No Comments »

Many people get confused where jumpclones and medical clones are concerned but there really is no need to get confused.

The only thing to remember is this: medical clones and jumpclones have nothing to do with eachother.

One underlying factor for the confusion is often that people somehow consider their jumpclones to be different from their ‘main’ body, even though they are not. Your ‘main’ body does not exist. There is only your active body and your jumpclones. Whenever you make a clone jump, you active body becomes a jumpclone and the jumpclone you jumped to becomes your active body. There’s no way of telling which body was the original body (unless they have different implants and you know which implants were in the original).

Your medical clone gets activated whenever your active body gets podded, no matter what body that is. Once you’ve realised there’s no ‘main’ body, this makes perfect sense. If do still think of a ‘main’ body and jumpclones, you might think that the medical clone only covers the ‘main’ body and that whenever jumpclone is podded it is simply lost or that a seperate medical clone is needed for each jumpclone. That is not the case. There is no difference between the different bodies so there’s no difference in which the medical clone treats them. No matter what body you are in, the one medical clone you have will work.

There’s another thing which often leads to confusion. A medical clone covers only a certain amount of skillpoints, whereas a jumpclone simply is an exact copy, no matter how many skillpoints you have. There is no need to ‘buy’ skillpoint upgrades for jumpclones. Also the skillpoint coverage for medical clones is only relevant when you get podded. Some people think that limit also applies to jumpclones and that they’ll lose SP if they jump to a jumpclone when they’re over the limit. That is not the case. Jumpclones don’t have any skillpoint limit and never check for skillpoints.

Lastly, there’s the matter of location. There used to be a bug which occured when your medical clone as in the same station as a jumpclone. That bug was fixed. Now you can have a both in the same station without a problem, they won’t interact in any way.

Now you know why I like to stick to the simple statement: medical clones and jumpclones have nothing to do with eachother. Jumpclones are other bodies which may be activated at will and the medical clone always covers whatever body that is active. It’s as simple as that!

Note: If you’d like to know more, this matter is also covered in my comprehensive guide to jumpclones [PDF].

Comprehensive guide to jumpclones

1 Comment »

Back in January I wrote a guide to jumpclones [PDF] so that users of my service and other interested (new) players would have access to as much useful information on jumpclones as possible. The guide covers everything from creating and using jumpclones to destroying them. Since January, the guide has been downloaded more than 4000 times!

The guide still is very useful. Today posted links to it in two threads and referred someone in corp chat to it. I don’t mind answering questions, but the guide covers everything in such detail, with accompanying pictures, that it seems a shame not to refer to it ;-)

6 month chart for EACS

No Comments »

Every month I release a chart showing the total number of users for EACS, the number of users per day, and some trend lines. That is not just an interesting gimmick, I actually use these charts to keep track of how the service is doing. It tells me for instance when I should start worrying about having low numbers of applications – as you can see the daily applications vary a lot, from less than 5 to more than 20, but the short-term average (the yellow line, which is the central moving average) always stays between 7.5 and 12. So as long as that average stays above 7.5, there’s no need for me to worry as it’s likely to turn around in a few days, as it has previously.

EACS 6-month chart

The black line is the long-term average (the cumulative average to be exact). As you can see the line is climbing slowly but steadily, meaning that EACS continues to grow even now. Judging from ingame feedback I receive, the growth is no small part achieved by word of mouth. The more people use the service, the more people talk about the service, the more people want to use the service – it is a great  feedback loop ;)

The total number of users (red line) was at 1583 at June 3rd, just two days later the 1600 user mark was broken. It is a number beyond my wildest expectations. I’m really happy so many people enjoy this service!

A picture speaks a thousand words

I can talk all day about the 410 jumpclone facilities across the universe and the 304 offices EACS has, but often that kind of numbers don’t really say much. The universal nature of EACS really becomes clear when showing the offices on the ingame map. As you can see: wherever you are, there’s always an office near you!

EACS on Podlogs =)

4 Comments »

Today is the release of EACS on Podlogs! Estel Arador Corp Services [EACS] is EVE’s leading jumpclone service provider. With the recent expansion to over 400 jumpclone facilities, the lists in the thread on the EVE forums became almost too huge to handle. Luckily Eddie Gordo came to the rescue with the launch of Podlogs (thanks Eddie!)

Podlogs allows me to conveniently list EACS’ jumpclone facilities and offices in (sub)pages so that users don’t get lost in the huge list of facilities and offices. In addition, it allows me to use the blog to make more frequent news updates with more content. It’s likely that I’ll use the blog not just for strictly EACS news, but more as an extension of my forum activity – blogging about those things which I frequently post on such as things related to New Citizens, Skills and the Market.

So have a look around the site and come back regularly for news, updates and (hopefully) interesting blog posts!
