A New Beginning…Almost

I just deleted 12 paragraphs of pure sexiness in order to remake this post…(this is the post I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve been working on…now not so epic).  It had lots of nice In-Character RP and juicy details about what I was doing in Faction Warfare and what my plans were, etc.  But as I tend to do so much, I changed my mind and am leaving Faction Warfare…before I even announced publicly that I had joined it!

Almost 2 weeks ago (Sep 18, 2009 to be exact) I left Suddenly Ninjas to go try out Faction Warfare on the Minmatar side.  Within the first 2 days I had gained 2 promotions, with a 3rd following about a week later.  I spent a bit of time orbitting outposts in plexes at 15-20km waiting to claim them for the Tribal Liberation Force.  While this was entertaining to begin with…the fact that I was doing this in systems that were deserted took a little of the excitement out of it.  So I tried looking for some populated systems.

That didn’t work out so well because those systems had pirates constantly warping in to try and kill me.  Granted…playing the “Hot, Cold” game with people telling them if they are getting closer to you are not, while you are in a cloaked covert ops 150km away and lieing to them can be fun for quite some time…it just doesn’t give me the thrills that I was getting before I joined Faction Warfare.

So what next?  Since plexing wasn’t “doin’ it” for me I thought I’d go kill some people.  I woke up my alt, took the Providence to Jita and bought 100 Rifters, and enough fittings for all of them, along with an Impel and a Prorator (I agree with pjharvey that Transports are nice :) ).  Once I got to my highsec staging base, 2 jumps from Dal…my main lowsec base), I fitted up my two transports and got ready to do some moving.

The Prorator made 2 trips with all my fittings, the Impel was used to start moving the rifters…8 at a time.  Yes, an Impel can hold more than 8, but I put some Warp Core Stabs in the lows along with my Expanded Cargoholds to make sure I got through any gatecamps unscathed since I had to jump through Amamake and Dal…both havens for pirates at times.  I made one trip in that Impel and decided I didn’t feel like moving the rest of the rifters…so I logged of the alt, got in a rifter with Cyberin, and went out to kill people.  (Note: I have these characters on 2 different accounts…not sure why I logged out of one to log in the other…oops).

I never got to kill anyone…and I ran from quite a few someones.  Blobs suck if you aren’t in one.

So here I am, my application has been resubmitted to Suddenly Ninjas (hopefully they let me back in since I was already a member…not sure though since there is another pending wardec…we shall see)…and I get to start moving all my crap back to dodixie.

On the plus side, all my stuff is in 2 systems 2 jumps from each other now…should make the freighter run quick!

———-

I still plan on getting some In-Character posts done, I really want to get back into it…it’s been so long since I’ve role-played that I want to make sure I still have the writing skills…I don’t write nearly as much as I’d like…or as I used to, which is a problem I would like to rectify.  And by write, I mean using my imagination and skills…not just jotting down posts like these in 10 minutes :) .

Problem there is I’m not sure if I want to do something In-Character as a ninja…or simply do some Fan Fiction about whatever…it will probably end up being a little bit of both.

So…look forward to more Tears, and new In-Character Content!

EVE Mobile…possibility?

Welcome to the twelfth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month’s banter comes to us from CrazyKinux himself, who asks the following: First there was the MMO on the PC, and now with the recent announcement of DUST 514, EVE will soon be moving onto consoles. But what about mobile? Allow your imagination to run wild for a second and describe how you would see EVE being ported to mobile devices, whether the iPhone/iPod touch, Blackberrys or Android-based devices. Dream the impossible for us!

———-

I’m always late on these Blog Banters…ALWAYS!  That changes this month, I have my post done, and scheduled to go live at 1 minute past midnight on the 29th…eat that you on-time bloggers!

———-

I’m a little partial to Android-based devices for the simple fact that I own one, though for the purpose of this post it doesn’t really matter since my opinion and ideas would work for any type of smart phone.  While I normally let my mind roam free and think about all the huge “what-if”…the first thing that came to mind after seeing CrazyKinux’s question is that a mobile version of EVE would have to be extremely limited.  Limited so much in my view that it would be more of an official mobile “tool” than a mobile version of the game.

If you think about it, there is just no way to port a game as massive as EVE onto a mobile phone and still be playable.  I’m sure the technology will exist eventually…but the screen size alone would kill the experience, not to mention having a touch-screen.

I could go on and on about the drawbacks of a touch screen too, since that’s something I’ve actually contemplated trying out with EVE.  While I haven’t actually tried it, I talked myself out of buying a touch screen monitor because of a few reasons…the most prominent being issues with EVE’s menu system.  How would you open them?  Single tapping wouldn’t work…that’s how you’d select stuff.  Double tapping should move your ship.  That leaves holding (touching the screen with your finger and holding it there until the menu pops up.  That would work wonders you say?…have you ever tried to do something in EVE?…shoot, recall drones, lock someone…they all require quick reflexes and speed…which would be impossible with a touch-and-hold menu system.  This problem alone is enough to kill the playability on a mobile device.

Then you have the sheer size of EVE.  Installing it on a mobile phone, while possible, would mean you’d have to buy a huge SD card, or just not install anything else at all.  And for those of you who think “well, make an EVE-Light”…mind explaining what an EVE-Light would be?  What would you do away with?…remove one thing to make it fit on a Mobile…and you aren’t playing EVE anymore ;) .

Another aspect of EVE is a network connection.  I don’t care if you have the most advanced phone out there…a mobile device massively limits the playability of the game due to the uncertain nature of a mobile network.  If you’ve lost a ship due to a shaky home connection…could you imagine how many you would lose while roaming around and hitting a mobile deadspot?

———-

So…what could you do with EVE on a mobile device?  Well my idea is simple…and I actually think it might be closer than we might think.

Why not be able to chat, change skills, update your bio, shop the market (in your current region…no flying somewhere else), etc.  Anything that you can do while you are stationary.  Though truthfully I’m not sure I’d like the idea of the market part…would be unfair for the normal pvpers if the market pvpers could play their full game from the phone!

While it wouldn’t be “EVE”…it would still be awesome to be able to chat with people in-game while you are sitting at the doctors office.  Forget to put a skill in the queue and don’t feel like getting out of bed?  Have a sudden urge to increase your corp tax to 75%…do it!

The possibilities of EVE and a Mobile Device are certainly numerous…I just don’t think it would be wise to try and push them too far…bad things could happen.

Oh…and…heard about COSMOS right?…seem to me that it could easily be the start of something like what I mentioned above…

In-Game EVE Bloggers Channel

Alexia, from over at Punishment, mentioned a little while ago that we need more people in our In-Game Channel…I totally agree!

I figure if we get a bunch of bloggers posting a short post similar to Alexia’s and this one that maybe people might realize we do have the channel to hang out in.  So, if you think it’s a good idea, just write up a quick post with the info, and we’ll see if we can’t get some more activity in our private little channel…I mean…there are over 400 EVE Blogs…

So, when you get the chance, come join all of us EVE Bloggers in the “Eve-Bloggers” channel!

———-

p.s. I swear I’ll have that post I’ve mentioned a few times done sometime in the next few days…just been rather hectic around here lately…and I want to make sure it’s good!

Thoughts On Dominion

While I sit here, cussing and fuming at my main computer and trying to get it fixed (note…I had it fixed, then did something stupid, and am trying to refix it now).  I figured I’d actually post something up.  I’m still working on a post that I think everyone will like, I’m quite proud of it so far…but while I finish that one up I thought people might be interested in my opinions of the Preliminary Patch Note for Dominion.  And if not…well…here they are anyway!

Be advised, the patch notes are actually longer than what I’ll be responding to…but for the sake of your sanity, I have decided to remove the pointless remarks I was making about parts of the patch notes that I really don’t care about…enjoy.

Ships
-We have added 4 new Navy battleships, based on Tier 1 battleship hulls.  They are the Navy Armageddon, Navy Scorpion, Navy Dominix, and Navy Typhoon and they have shiny new model skins from Art.
-The existing Navy frigates and battleships have been rebalanced. Details in this thread.
-All pirate faction ships have been rebalanced. Details in this thread.

This simply makes me very happy.  While they all have their good points and somewhat-meh-points, I’m really looking forward to the new Navy Typhoon…for reasons that will be discussed in that upcoming post I mentioned earlier.  Also, Kirith over at the Inner Sanctum of the Ninveah did some very nice posts on these new ships, make sure to go read them…Navy Armageddon, Navy Scorpion, Navy Dominix, and Navy Typhoon!

The Pirate/Navy ship rebalancing was not as exciting to me at first simply because they screwed up two of my favorite salvaging ships…the Firetail and Dramiel, but now I’m decent impressed with them…due in part again to the new post coming out Soon.  Casiella over at Ecliptic Rift also made some posts similar to Kiriths about the Navy Frigate changes…Republic Fleet Firetail, Imperial Navy Slicer, Federation Navy Comet, Caldari Navy Hookbill.

Graphics
-Some prime planets have had their graphics changed to an enhanced and more detailed version.

While this does excite me a little bit, I can’t help but to notice that part where it says prime planets.  Does this mean it’s only going to be Caldari Prime, and other important planets like that?…or does it mean all the planet models?…I can see it meaning either way…

User Interface
-Players can now get the repair quote on items through the right click menu if the station they are in has a repair service.

Now if only they would make it so only repairable items show in the repair service…I hate having to figure out which one of those 700 items is damaged when trying to repackage them!

Miscellaneous
-We have replaced the old in game browser with a modern version based on Chromium.  Documentation can be found here with the Dev Blog available here
-Player owned wrecks can now be marked as “Available for all” which prevents CONCORD or criminal repercussions for taking from or destroying free for all wrecks.
-Wallet now shows the correct capitalization.
-Starmap will correctly show whether a militia service is located in a station.

-Finally…it’s about damn time! ‘Nuff said.
-I fail to see the reasoning, or the reason, for this change…it adds nothing in my opinion.
-I can’t tell you how much that NEVER bothered me…or how much I NEVER noticed it…why the hell is that even in the patch notes.  Srsly?
-That…makes me happy…

Modules / Skills
-Fitting a Small Tractor Beam will now require Science to be trained to level 3 instead of level 4.
-Fitting a Micro Auxilary Power Core I will now require Energy Management 2 instead of level 3.
-Fitting an Armor Hardener I will now require Hull Upgrades to be trained to level 3 instead of level 4.
-Hacking will now have the following prerequisites: Science level 3 (from level 5), Electronics Upgrades level 2( from level 5), Electronics level 1 (from level 2) and Engineering level 1 ( from level 2)
-Archaeology will now have the following prerequisites Science lev 3( from level 5), Survey level 3 (from level 5) and Electronics level 1
-Salvaging will now have the following prerequisites Mechanic level 3, Survey at level 3 and Engineering level 1
-Cloaking has the following prerequisites Electronics lev 4 ( was 5)
-High Speed Maneuvering will now have Navigation at level 3 and Afterburner at level 3 as its prerequisites (instead of all at level 4)
-Tactical Shield Manipulation has Engineering at level 3 as its prerequisites(instead of level 4)
-Trajectory Analysis has Gunnery at level 4 as a prerequisite (instead of 5)
-Bomb Deployment has Missile Bombardment at level 4 as a prerequisite (instead of level 5)
-Mining Upgrades now has Mining at level 3 as a prerequisite (instead of 4)
-Thermodynamics has Engineering at level 5, Energy Management at level 3(instead of 5) and Science at level 4
-You can no longer inject skills if they cannot be added to the end of the training queue immediately.

There’s too many skills listed above to comment on all of them.  All I can say here is this significantly reduces the time it’s going to take me to get to some of my needed goals.  Thermodynamics is probably my favorite change out of all of these.  Awesome!

Starbases, Outposts and Stations
-Bookmarks can no longer be placed in starbase structures.

Why the hell not?…I can place them in my hanger, my cargo cans, other people cargo cans, little wooden boxes, under the pillow, in the closet, under the bed, inside the mattress…why can’t I put them in my POS?  What’s so special about that?…I can put everything else in there.

Modules
-Remote ECM burst modules now have a chance of affecting the target ship.

Good!  I never understood why they didn’t in the first place.

Drones
-Drones would sometimes refuse to attack certain structures, they’ve been given a stern talking-to and will now obey orders with more diligence.

They said it before…

NPC’s
-Small, Medium and Large Standard laser crystals will now drop from the appropriate NPCs.

What about the Angels that drop Miner Is?  Or the Sanshas that drop Warp Core Stabs (they never seem to use them to leave ya know…)?  Ooh…Ooh…or the Serpentis that like to use Light Missiles in their Rocket Launchers…I wish I could do that!

CCP Loves Ninjas!

While reading around a bit on the Ninjas forum today, I came across a thread that I feel needs more attention.  So while I’m not formally in Suddenly Ninjas anymore (more on that in a new post later today), I’m still a Ninja at heart…and will make sure to fit a Salvager to my Rifter!

So, for your reading pleasure, I present you: CCPs Love of Ninjas…stop whining about it Carebears…

Full Log in This Thread

CCP Dropbear: One problematic thing about “generic” missions is how they effectively isolate the mission-runner from other players and provide few avenues for social interaction. If you’re wondering why sometimes epics send players to nullsec, lowsec, exploration sites…well, this is a big part of the reason why

Kahega Amielden (SN Director): Don’t worry, CCP. We here at Suddenly Ninjas™ are working hard to add social interaction to generic missions

CCP Dropbear: And we love you (and others like you) for it! In some weird and wonderful way, groups like yours operate as flag bearers for the full EVE experience, and we wouldn’t want to change, or get in the way of that.

Also, lol.

Two words explain this response well: SIMPLY EPIC!!!

Off and On

Well, yesterday I spent all day trying to figure out what was going on with my computer.  It crashed in the morning and just wouldn’t come back on all the way for a few hours.  I finally said to hell with it and tried to reinstall Windows, but apparently my disk drive is dead.  So, I’ll be using my daughters not-so-nice computer until I scrape up the money for a new disk drive for my laptop…which might be a while sadly.

Also, in other news, I have decided (after getting an offer I couldn’t refuse) to move back to my own custom domain name for the site.  I’m not going to reveal it until I get it all setup…but believe me when I say it will be nice, got good plans for it.  Should be a couple days until it’s ready to be released.

Before I announce it I’ll of course have to contact Crazykinux, some people that have linked to me, and some other people about getting all my RSS/links straightened out to point at the new site.  I figure people didn’t have enough work to do…what with having babies (Crazykinus…gratz by the way) and just recently updating from my move I just did to podlogs not even 2 months ago.

Oh well, such is the way of things…though I can promise this new site will be the permanent home of Hands Off, My Loots!

Podlogs has been good to me so far, and I wish it the best, but I need my own space to grow and thrive, and I just don’t feel I can do it as well when I’m restricted to what I can do without having full control of the entire site.

Hopefully I can get some time to play EVE tomorrow so I can actually post something about the game soon…as all my planned posts went down the tubes with my hard drive (chat logs…), and with all the commotion I didn’t get a chance to play much the past few days sadly.

It’s been a very eventful couple of weeks!  Got a few kills, got killed a few, got podded due to lag…meh, decided to play in WH space, put up a POS, etc, etc…

I actually started this post sometime early last week, but between working, catching up on a few hundred google reader posts, and actually playing EVE I’ve neglected actually finishing it a bit, as a result…there will be more information than was planned! Hooray!!!

———-

The War with the Deadspace Society is still going strong, though I have a few opinions of it, and how most of our corp is handling it.

We started off the war with getting a few more kills than we were getting killed, which was good.  I personally got in on a few kills myself, and died twice.  That last kill there was a pretty fun one for us.  We had been chased (and being chased by) a gang of about 7-8 War Targets, and took one jump into lowsec to head to another area of highsec.  Sadly for Slumpert he was the only one of his gang that decided to follow us into that lowsec system…which ended in his destruction.  I hope he said thanks to his mates!

The Typhoon kill was a nice addition as well.  It started with Akquar playing station games with us, not having enough of us to to much about as we couldn’t break his tank before his agression timer ended and he docked up a few times.  Finally, much to his surprise backup arrived and he last attempt to play with us resulted in him going pop.  For some reason (possibly lag?) he sat their in his pod so I pointed him.  Sadly I wasn’t paying attention and clicked on another ship rather than his pod to approach and ended up getting out of range so Zav and Lars helped me crack his pod open.  Yes, his corpse is sitting in my hangar now…no…I won’t tell you what I do with it at night.

My two deaths were no where near as fun.  First one was simply me being the weakest person in the gang I was in so I got primaried pretty quickly I assume.  Second one happened due to my own error.  We were forming up to mess with a WT gate camp and everyone was aligned to the gate.  FC said “Warp…” (so I hit warp) “…to Planet X” (this is where I learned to let the FC finish talking before hitting warp).  So I end up at the gate and play jumping game with them a few times.  I think it was the 4th jump where I couldn’t burn back to the gate fast enough and got squished.

———-

My alt got podded, that was annoying.  I was in Rens I think selling my lastest haul of sleeper stuff, and making a few runs with a few loads of Arkanor I had to unload.  After 4 trips, I undocked from the station to find a WT in a hurricane sitting out front, I quickly docked back up in my Bestower to purchase a Shuttle to mess with him in.  My plan was to head out, warp to a planet (which I did well) then warp in and out to annoy him while he couldn’t lock me each time.

Well, where it went wrong was the first time I warped back in…I lagged.  My screen updated just in time to see my shuttle go boom, while I was spamming dock the whole time…then more lag.  Next thing, I wake up in some station in Amarr space in my clone.  There goes that full set of +4s.  I hopped in a shuttle and flew back to Rens, logged out, and logged back in a few hours later to successfully get my hauler out and back to the wormhole.

I put in a petition to see if I could get reimbursed, since I was dumb and forgot to check and make sure my clone was upgraded (which…it wasn’t…figures…only 3 days of training to get back the skill I lost though, so wasn’t too bad).  As always, the logs showed nothing.

———-

I mentioned it earlier, but in case you missed it, I’ve been spending most of the war in a Wormhole system goofing around.  I didn’t actually come in here to avoid the war, it just happened to work out that way…I’m hiding in the Shadows like a good Ninja!

When I first came in it was simply for a quick run with an Alliance Mate (we have an official alliance wh corp that has a pos in this same system).  But it ended up with me staying for a bit, getting annoyed that I couldn’t use the ship maintenance array to store my ships (alliance mates can put them in, but only members of the wh corp can get them out for us…no thanks).  So, the next day I thought about putting up my own POS to base out of.

When the static highsec exit opened up 3 jumps from Jita I took it as a sign from all those Ninjas that have passed before me.  So, 9 trips of 6 jumps each later with my fully decked out and rigged Bestower Alt of Doom I had a medium POS setup in a class 1 wormhole system.  Overkill? Yes!  Fun? Yes! So it worked out well for me.

After a week though, I think I want to find myself a Class 2 wormhole to get to while I work on my skills.

My POSs Overkill Setup

Now, for the part that had to deal with the title of this post.  My plan for my next WH move is to put up a large faction tower with a little bit of everything that I can online/offline when I need certain services.  I know it’ll be overkill…but…I like to do things over the top.  So, in good Ninjas fashion…I need someone to send me 2,600,000,000 isk so I can buy all the stuff.  If you don’t have that much, I’ll accept much less, please just send Donations to Cyberin.

(please also note, the above paragraph is not serious…unless of course, you want to donate :D lol)

———-

Where does the future lead?

I’m not sure yet.  I enjoy being with the Ninjas, making new friends, and getting my loots from other people.  But I’m also have a blast in my Wormhole, while also having thoughts of Faction Warfare.  I thought I had finally made up my mind with what I want to do when I joined the Ninjas…but apparently, my mind was playing tricks on me since I’m still unsure of exactly what I want to do.  I think in the end it’s all just going to come down to me doing whatever I feel like doing, whenever I feel like doing it.  I guess only time will tell.

Progress, for the sake of Progress

CCP Abathur posted a new Dev Blog, Sovereignty – Breaking the Chains, this morning explaining some of the new concepts that are going into the new sovereignty system for Null Sec that will be coming with the release of Dominion.

I stated previously in my post about the release of Dominion that the Sovereignty changes didn’t excite me much because I didn’t have plans for 0.0 any time soon.  Reading this new information has changed my mind a little.  Granted, I probably still won’t be going to 0.0 any time soon, but the industrialist in me is extremely excited about the fact that Alliances are going to be able to upgrade their claimed systems to provide better “risk vs reward”.

Abathur states that the “Military, Economic and Industrial” aspects of 0.0 space will be able to be altered.  Militarily I’m guessing that upgradeable defenses will be able to be set in place (gate guns anyone?).  For the Economic and Industrial side of things my guess would simply be having some way of finding the rare ores, gases, ice belts, etc it all areas of space rather than the limited amount you can find in very specific places currently.

As always with announcements like this, all the actual details are left to our imaginations, which of course annoys me a bit, I’d much prefer if they just gave us all the info they know at one time…but I guess I’ll live.

———-

Another new feature that sounds like it will interest me is the ability for “roaming gangs to cause an ‘AFK Empire’ no end of frustration”…that sounds like a perfect fit for the Ninjas…and I am sure that I will be attending roams to go mess with people in the mid-to-near future.

Currently, it’s pretty much impossible for small gangs to have any effect on large (or small for that matter) Null Sec Alliances due to the fact that you have to take down so many POSes to do any amount of annoyance.  But with whatever changes they have in mind…the ability for Black Ops operations to really make a huge difference is going to increase dramatically.  And as a Ninja, and a guy who likes sneakiness in anything really…that makes me happy.

———-

There are a few other features annouced in the Dev Blog like Alliances having to pay upkeep on the stargates in the space they control and the fact there will be some sort of ‘flag’ they must place in systems to control.  So I’m guessing it’ll be something like the way Faction Warfare currently works.

I’m curious to see what the upkeep is going to be like, and if it’s going to be per system…or per total stargates in the actual system.  Also an interesting concept would be an Alliances ability to shut down certain stargates if they didn’t pay their bill.  Maybe shutting down 2/5 stargates would still give them more than 50% control…so they wouldn’t lose sovereignty…but it would be an interesting defense tactic for sure.

All in all, this Dev Blog, while not giving me much detailed info to salivate over, just increased my excitement for Dominion a little more.

I frickin’ HATE Ninjas!

Well, it looks like the Clown Punchers need a few more entries in their contest before they can make a decision on the winner, so I figured that since I only have 202 blog posts left to read in my google reader…I’d spend my time wisely and help out with at least one of those entries.

The question we pose to our fellow bloggers for the first installment of the CKIAGFEBBC is, “What is the thing you hate/dislike most about the player run corporation you are in.”

As most of you probably know (and if you don’t, shame on you) I’m a member of the infamous Suddenly Ninjas corporation, EVE’s premier Ninja Salvaging entity.  While I love my new Corporation, and my new profession…there is of course always something about everything to dislike.

Really, Really, REAALLYYY long chat logs on the SN Forums are one of those.

We love Tears.  Ninjas LOVE Tears.  I relish and roll around in a bed full of Tears, that’s how much I enjoy them.  I like my Tears, and I like reading about other people’s Tears…but…all the random shit in between is annoying.

As ninjas, we of course measure the size of our epeen by the fullness of our “Cup-o-Tears”…and I’ve noticed lately some people trying to water down their Tears with chatlogs that are sometimes hundreds of lines long…diluted Tears are annoying…and not as Salty as I’d like.

When I read Tears, I would simply like to read the Tears.  I don’t need to know what that random guy in local thinks about it (unless his opinion is funny), nor do I need to see the 73 lines of one worded coaxial messages between the good stuff.  I also am not fond of knowing what that random guy in local’s mother is doing at the current moment, unless of course it somehow pertains to the validity of said person’s Manhood.  I just want to read the Tears, and possibly some of the important stuff that lead up to them.

I make it a point when I post Tear Logs to clean out all the dry stuff…since Tears are wet…and I wish everyone would do it!

So to recap…notepad, notepad+, wordpad, word, works, whatever program your computer has to edit text…they ALL have a delete button…use it ninjas!
