Kills

 25/8/09

Arazu, Vexor, Rook, Crow, Drake – A1-AUH battle against Zenith Afinity, read this post for the battle report.

26/8/09

Executioner and Pod –  Before my duals with Hawkeye a neutral warped into BY-MSY and was quickly obliterated.

18/8/09

Cyclone – Maximus Sotar was being engaged by a Brick Squad Cyclone and Drake in RPS-, so I came to help in my Stealth Bomber

29/8/09

Vagabond and Pod, Crusader and Pod – On a alliance CTA to reinforce some POS’s we came across Vagabond being engaged by second fleet which we helped to finish off. We then caught a Crusader in a bubble, resulting in his immediate destruction.

Kill of the week

Wolf – The Brick Wolf pilot decided it would be a great idea to run around a system and then hit a (not so) safespot. I brought in my probing alt and found him. My Taranis promptly reduced his ship to scrap metal.

Losses

Ibis and Pod – In Amarr – read this post here.

The Captains Log 29/8

Clones

So today I logged on and had the urge to buy my Sabre. I had just finished training all the skills I need to fit it well, which also gives me the skills to fit any Minmitar Frigate with T2 equipment.

So I pod killed myself up to empire and bought myself a clone; and watched my wallet drop down 30 mill. WTF. A clone does not cost 30mill, unless you buy the wrong one and therefore now have a clone that can hold 120mill skillpoints. Well the solutions to this was simple, I just couldn’t get pod killed until I had reached 120 mill skillpoints myself. Easy.

I was pod killed 10 minutes later.

War Declarations

For the last week we have being at war with Privateer Alliance and Hooligans Of War, which doesn’t really affect me as I more or less stay in 0.0. However, to buy my Sabre I travelled to Amarr where naturally there were war targets ready to shoot me. After I docked up I popped back out of the station to see what the hostiles were flying, however I didn’t quite realise how big the kick out was and ended up outside the docking range, and as I was flying my Ibis I was caught and pod killed. Sigh so much for not losing my pod until I reached 120mill skill points.

However, as I was up in empire with a blank clone I thought it would be fun to play with Privateer Alliance for a bit. So I fitted up a Vexor especially made for killing frigates (like the Wolf that killed me). Privateer’s though had other plans; every time they saw me they docked back up, until they had enought people to blob me. I tried to kill a thasher as well about 10 hours latter, but failed to so as again he kept docking up until they attempted to blob me.

So I gave up on them and fitted up my Sabre and took it down 0.0.

The Capatains Log 27/8

So as anyone who has being following my blog knows, I’m trying to save up to buy a Phoenix. However, as I don’t earn money very fast it is a bit problematic. So I have decided to mine all the minerals I need. The amount need can be seen in the table below (if there are mistakes forgive my shody maths).

Minerals Total Units of primary ore
Isogen

1,527,195.00

2,487,288.27

Megacyte

35,589.00

41,869.41

Mexallon

9,384,757.00

12,207,515.94

Noxium

446,171.00

526,145.05

Pyerite

23,936,240.00

19,160,499.81

Tritanium

103,341,282.00

34,412,646.91

Zydrine

79,886.00

20,873.31

I have three hulk characters so hopefully this will not take too long. What I might end up doing though is mining the high end minerals and then buying the majority of the low end minerals, as I should have enough isk to buy them. As I start getting the minerals in I can get Caladan09 to begin the production phase. Once of my corp member has a full set of the BPO’s need so ill see if can use them. If not ill have to buy a blueprint pack which costs around 300mill.

Plex

So to earn some extra isk I went on a plex today with some corp members. For the plex Hawkeye lent me an Oneiros to some logistic work with, thought our tank, flying a Hyperion, nearly died when I got caught on a gate when trying to warp into the plex. I got my reps on him when he had 20% structure left.

However, the Oneiros didn’t last long as it was destroyed when someone in the fleet triggered a mini DD insta popping it. I went and got my Raven after that, which was also nearly destroyed on a respawn when my computer froze up so I couldn’t warp out.

The plex gave us a escalation that got us nothing, unhappy about that. In the end I made about 40 mill from bounties.

Throwing down the gauntlet

The Captains Log 26/8

A1-AUH battle report

Just quickly to begin with, a Zenith Affinity and KIA attack squad came into the BY-MSY constellation looking for a fight, which they got. We got a defence fleet together, with me in a Taranis, and managed to bait them into attacking a Dominix on a gate. The fleet then jumped them and cynoed in a carrier (overkill I know). I managed to tackle a Vexor, a Crow and then an Arazu, though the Arazu forced me to warp off when he deployed his drones on me. Final kills were an Arazu, Vexor, Rook, Crow, Drake. Can’t remember all of our loses, but I know we had a Falcon and something else.

Duals

Now for the important part of today. When I logged on Hawkeye (my CEO) was looking for some to dual in his Crusader. So I brought out my Taranis and asked him to bring it on. However, before I could even meet up with him a neutral poped up in BY-MSY flying an Executioner, which went pop when I caught him on a gate.

Hawkeye and I then set the rules for our dual, which were stop at structure and warp in at 30km. The battle was to take place in asteroid belt were the rest of our corp was mining (they needed some entertainment).

Entertaining our miners

Entertaining our miners

So we squared off, my MWD was running hot and my guns were loaded and ready to fire. The flag was waved and I burned straight towards him, the distance between our ships was reduced to nothing in a matter of seconds. I managed to lock him first, with my scrambler knocking out his warp drive, though, with surprise I noticed that mine was still working fine. My blasters quickly reduced his shields to nothing, with mine following shortly behind his. The armour was a little tougher but it melted under my sustained DPS with my drones adding in that little extra damage. My ship had being taken close to structure, but it had pulled through. I had won this fight; just.

Me in my Taranis vs Hawkeye's Crusader

After this we had another three fights using various fits. However, I managed to win every time, which we attributed to my use of a damage control, reducing the damage he was doing and my drones doing constant damage even when my blasters were missing him.

The next dual was against Hansgrit in a Vengeance. The battle started with us closing into range of each other, after which my blaster made short work of shields. My shields though were staying strong as my speed was faster enough to avoid the majority of the damage being applied to me. Then I ran into trouble. Hansgrit was able to repair all the damage I was dealing out (and he was only using one rep) while my cap was starting to run out. As soon as it did my MWD went off and his rockets began to tear my shields and then my armour apart. Victory went to Hansgrit in his Vengeance.

Modifying my blog

The Captains Log 26/8

Well I have being playing with my dashboard and have figured out how to link other peoples blogs in mine. So I have linked four (two from the blog pack and two which I have read and like). For the moment I would rather link some more of the obscure blogs rather than the ones from the blog pack, as most people already know of these.

I have also updated my About page, nothing spectacular but it is not the default now which is good.

A question for you all

Now I also have a question for all those podlog users out there; how do you change the “Just another Podlogs weblog” to somthing else? I have looked at everything in the dashboard and  cannot figure it out. Anybody able to help me?

I got an answer so for anyone else who wants to know just click settings (down the bottom) and its one of the first items on the form called “tagline.” So I have changed my Tagline to ‘For God, Gold and Glory,’ the phrase used by the conquistadors in the invasion of the south America.

Plugins

Also in my further explorations of the Dashboard I have been looking at the plugin. The one I like most is the WordPress stats, which shows how many views my blog is getting. I have wanted something likes when I first made my blog but couldn’t figure out how to do it and now I do.

If anyone else knows of some good plugins please tell me.

Part 2 – Capital Destruction and Titan Take Down

Posted by prometheus09 on August 23, 2009

The Capatins Log 24/8

Capital Destruction

So after I logged off the day began to go badly for Sys-k. Goonswarm got a couple of cyno alts into J-A and proceeded hotdropped 40 capital ships on top of our fleet. Reading COAD (horrible I know) it seems that Goonswarm and Brick are not allied (or they weren’t at the time of the hotdrop); instead Goons saw an opportunity to take out our caps and took it. The result was around a 20 capital ship loss for Sys-k. There is a Frap available here to watch (if it does not work it is at the bottom of page 5 on the COAD link above). You would think that our members would be disheartened from such a heavy loss, but we weren’t and we came back the next day and repaid this loss many times over.

Titan take down

About 12 hours latter (or there about) we began setting up in 6QBH for another op into enemy space to help a friendly POS, when it was noticed that two Burn Eden titan pilots logged on. For all we knew they could have logged on to do some ratting, but they didn’t, instead they cynoed into 6QBH and proceeded to double doomday our fleet. In amongst this field of destructive energy my CEO, Hawkeye (his alt anyway) flying his Onyx not only survived both doomsdays but also got a tackle on one of the titans piloted by Syrian. He then had to survive and hold the tackle for one minute before the rest of our fleet was able to get to the battlefield and beging taking the titan down.

Burn Eden Titan is tackled

Burn Eden Titan is tackled

In an effort to save their allies titan, Brick Squad also cynoed in their capital fleet only to have it tackled. The result was the destruction of Burn Eden’s Titan and the Brick Capital fleet. The second Titan managed to escape. The final battle report is (thanks to Manasi)

Brick/BE:  lost 1 Titan, 11 Dreads, 10 Carriers, 4 BS, 2 recons, 2 interceptors, 1 dictor, and a few others…( total of 43)

The combined allied fleet lost:

4 dreads, 2 BS,1 BC, 1 Stealth bomber, 1 Heavy Assault, 1 Dictor ( a total of 14)

As with any great battle there is much discussion on the forums so go to COAD and Manasi’s blog for other perspectives. Also there is a YouTube video of the take down as well.

Now that I have recounted what happened I have to say I MISSED IT. I got up one hour too late to find out we had killed a titan without me being there. I am very unhappy.

Sys-k weekend warriors: Part 1

Posted by prometheus09 on August 23, 2009

The Captains Log

Day 1 – Kills for me and you

I have broken the weekends ops into two posts due the contrast in the ops and what was killed.

So I log on Saturday morning and we have another op on to hit Brick Squad, the fleet had already reinforced a POS and was now repping one of ours. I got in late so I decided to use my Taranis for this op. Getting into J-A was no problem, though I thought I was going to get trapped in a gate camp as Brick sabre was following me on the route I was taking. However I joined up with the rest of the fleet without incident and proceed to camp the station with the rest of the support fleet.

Patrolling a bubble

Patrolling a bubble

Flyby over a friendly Pheonix

Flyby over a friendly Pheonix

The first kill of the day (for me at least) was a Taranis. While patrolling the outskirts of the bubble a Taranis undocked and flew directly in the bubble. Big mistake, I was all over him. My scrambler knocked out his MWD and my blasters proceeded to strip his shields, tear a hole in is armour and then bring about the destruction of ship. His pod was promptly squished. Checking the kill mail I had 100% of the damage on the Taranis.

While patrolling the station we had a distress call from one of our fleet members in belt, he had just being caught in a belt flying a Stabber Fleet Issue. So we all promptly warped to him in an attempt to remove the enemy fleet from existence. While in warp the stabber died but we managed to tackle a Harbinger before he warped out. A shiny blue explosion announced the demise of his ship.

Back at the station we killed several pods as they undocked and then had a Tempest try and sniper us for awhile, which we failed to tackle. One of our scouts then reported a hostile captor on the other side of a gate going into J-A so the support fleet warped there to try and get him when he jumped. Unfortunately, he didn’t. However, the Drake was not so lucky. He warped in on top of us suspecting nothing and then promptly tired to escape us and jump through the gate, right into the rest of our fleet. Even with the Drakes amazing shield tank he died quickly and was reduced into smocking wreckage. After our carriers finished repping our POS we all titan bridged out and went home.

Day 2 – More fleet ops

Again I arrived late in my Taranis right into the middle of battle. It was easy enough to get into J-A, though I had to run a Brick Ceptor gate camp. The fleet was trying to take down the POS that we had reinforced the day before with Brick Squad harassing us with sniper battles ships and putting up a good fight. During the time I was there we got a number of kills, though I only got on two, an Apocalypse and a Crow. I then logged off at our POS in J-A, and missed all the fun.

Part 2

Tune in for the next episode to find out about captial destruction and the death of a titan.

How to avoid bombs (or not)

Posted by prometheus09 on August 22, 2009

The Captains Log 23/8

Some losses for me

On my last post about how to use bombs Manasi asked me to write a post on how to avoid them. Yesterday I also suffered some loses from a stealth bomber using bombs on me, which has prompted me to write this.

So I was using my haulers and Crow to move some assets across the AAA JB’s when a Nemesis fired a bomb at my Iteron V. Now this failed as my Iteron V managed to warp out before the bomb even got near me, which shows that you should be using torps and bombs in that situation. So I knew he was there and what he was doing so I decided to us my Crow to try and take him out. The theory was that when he fired his bomb I would burn towards him and be out of range of the bomb when it exploded. It didn’t quite work and my Interceptor died. I knew this would happen and should have prepared better. So I went to the station and fitted up a Taranis to try again. This time I used my hauler as bait, which was taken. Again I missed tackling him and my hauler went boom (my Taranis survived though). I knew I should have bought a unfitted a hauler and used it. Sigh. After this I went back home, with the knowledge that I had a lot to improve on when it came to solo PvP.

How to avoid bombs

The primary rule to avoiding bombs is warp out if you can. Most bomber targets have good align times and will be able to warp out before the bomb explodes. However, this also requires you to pay attentions to your soundings, mainly don’t get stuck in bubbles. If you are stuck in a bubble you can expect to be an easy target for a bomber as you cannot warp out.

If you are in an interceptor, turn of you MWD to lower the damage that will be done to your ship.

That’s about all you can do to avoid bombs.

The Captains Log 22/8

Skills

So I have finished training Minmitar Frigate V on Prometheus09 so he now can use the Sabre, just another 4 days and he will be able to use T2 projectile turrets. After that I believe I will work on getting my gunnery support skills up as my DPS is a little weak when using guns. Caladan09 has finished Energy Grid Upgrades V so he can now use Reactor Control Unit II on his Pilgrim, which allows him to fit the large neut I have on it now. However, the Pilgrim training is not over yet has he has to get some shield skills for the tank and drone skills for DPS. Fishy Night can now fly a fully fitted dread (still need one so if you want to donate one to me feel free : ), though he still needs a few skills to level 4 before he can fly one efficiently.

Isk

With all these skills finishing I want to buy more ships and fittings, though I don’t have the ISK for them, so I figured it was time to earn some ISK. First I thought I would run some missions. So I bought two Ravens (first time I have ever flown a Raven in nearly two years as a Caldari Pilot) and fitted them (400 mill) and started doing some lvl 4 mission, but that wasn’t getting me that much in the ISK. A couple of ships sold so I had 300 mill again. I decided that this would be a good time try some trading. I had never done this before but I knew the basics – Buy high and sell low, buy and sell in quantities and your cargo space is worth a lot. So I decided to buy and sell pyerite after comparing the Amarr and Esoteria markets, there were large quantities moving in both places with a good enough price gap it was worth doing. However, it was only profitable if I did it in a freighter, which I did not have, so I borrowed one from a friend up in empire.

 Crow and frighter

The Freighter and my Crow as scout

Crow

Dosent the new Warp Tunnle effect look nice?

So now I had to fly down to Esoteria. Looking at the maps I could either travel 30 jumps though 0.0 or use jump bridges and cut that distance in half. I took the jump bridges. The only scary part was when just as I was getting to HED-GP a hostile gang formed up on the gate. However I knew they were there so I just waited till the left and continued on my way. It took me longer to collect all the pyerite than I anticipated, but that was because I had do to some travailing to get 60 mill pyerite and I kept on disconnecting. In the future I’ll just put up buy orders so I don’t have to travel to the various stations. Once After selling the pyerite I hauled up in Jita I made 80 mill.

After all the hauling all the ore I then brought my Ravens down to 0.0 to use them for ratting and plexing. As well as my Flacon.

War & Peace

War & Peace: My new Ravens

Plans for pew pew.

After reading Lestranges blog about wormholes and the Hellcats plans to use wormholes as a raiding base I thought it might be a good idea to plan an extensive roam into wormhole space. After talking to some corp mates who are living in a wormhole at the moment I got the impression that it is fairly busy in Wormhole space with plenty of targets to hit. At the moment I am thinking of taking my Arazu and Pilgrim out there, however after playing with some fittings I couldn’t find a fit I liked that did some decent DPS but could still use a Expanded probe launcher (I need this and not the core one so I can locate targets). So I may have to take a third character out to use as a prober.

The Future of EVE: DUST 514

Posted by prometheus09 on August 18, 2009

Today CCP released a press release about a new game they are making – DUST 514

DUST 514, featuring first-person shooter and RTS-style gameplay, will interact directly with EVE Online, CCP’s critically acclaimed flagship MMO. This interplay between the two games opens the EVE universe to console gamers and gives them a chance to become part of one of the most massive cooperative play and social experiences ever.

What can I say other then epic.

There is also this video here. Watching the video it is explained that DUST soldiers will take planets that will then feed into soverginty in EVE. Apparently this is going to be the basis of winter expansion.
