SPECTRE

[[OOC]] Nah, it’s not the old ebil syndicate from the 007 movies. IT is Spectre3353 and he’s leaving.

A bit sad really as I’ve really enjoyed his posts. As a noob over 18 months ago I voraciously read every blog and listened to every podcast I could find in order to minimize was is arguably the biggest learning curve in any game I have ever played.

I’m still a noob, but I’m better than what I was and Spectre’s blog is one of the reasons for that. EVE is fun and he personified what EVE is for me. Rough, elegant, sinister, cuthroat yet at times forgiving and even generous. I’m sure the many people ganked by him don’t think so but having read the blog I know he sometimes felt pity on the pilots and deposited a little something in their account to soothe the burn. He was EVE’s own snake oil salesman and I always loved those guys. His blogs were on point and his pony was definitely not of the one trick variety.

Good luck Spectre3353. I hope you keep your account and come back. Your humour and parody of EVE will be missed. No one quite does it like you do/did.

Well, I’ve been busy fighting slavers and haven’t been very good at updating my thoughts. You would think at a time in our history where we, the “gods” of the skies can control everything with our mind, simple things like memoirs would just come out of us given the right plugin.
Strange rumours of major changes in CONCORD structure and how nullsec space is portioned certainly has the capsuleer community in a tizzie. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Is where I’ve been a definition of what I am or what I can become?

It is said that a measure of a person is not so much where they are going but where they have been

Where I've been

I became a capsuleer 1 year ago on the 29th.  Does where I have been say that much about me?  I started my life (as it is) in Minmatar space doing mindless courier contracts and even more mindless actions for agents that only wanted to further their own careers and ambitions.  I then joined my brothers in the fight against the evil slavers in the low security borderlands.  There I fought and befriended pirates and killed Amarr.  Many lessons learned during my time there.

Following the utter frustration of trying to convince  the republic leadership to act now and take direct action against the Amarr my corporation moved to where we felt we could do more good.  We joined Ushra’Khan.  On the map you will note a good deal of time spent in Minmatar space and a growing amount of time in Curse, Delve and Querious.

I wasn’t without some wanderlust as you may see by some yellow points here and there on the map.  I have an exporatory streak in me and it will be interesting to see where that takes me in my second year as a pilot in New Eden.  Wormholes are interesting places and they tend to lead to even more interesting places.

A big thanks to a Wandering Druid that I have come across in my thirst for knowledge.  His wisdom has compelled me to share this with you.  He has taught me much over the past year.

A wise traveller always listens to those that have gone before him.

Farewell Brave Warrior

Standing in the dark observation room of the Curse Watchtower a figure moved.

His eyes peering out into the vastness of space. The lines on his face a history of the revolutionary struggle and yet a reflection of serenity that comes from many lifetimes of understanding why it had to be done.

His mind wandered carelessly through mental images of his physical life wondering what / where his soul would take him. His tribe had taught him that once his physical shell was given back to space his soul would enter the great halls of the Elders. If chosen, the warrior would join the others, the heroes of the seven tribes, in the greatest place of them all “Valhall”.  At the head of the table will sit the Elders of the great tribes and they will sit in judgment of his actions in this world.

The scrolls described this place of many homes in the otherwold.  His mind went over some of the verses he still remembered from when he was a child:

Sökkvabekk is the fourth, | where cool waves flow,
And amid their murmur it stands;
There daily do the Elders| and Warriors drink
In gladness from cups of gold.

The fifth is Glathsheim, | and gold-bright there
Stands Valhall stretching wide;
And there do the Elders | each day choose
The men who have fallen in fight.

He was joining the Elders and was going to be judged by those that had gone before him. He had to wonder.  Was he worthy?  Had he done enough? He had worked hard and sacrificed much for his tribe, his people, and his family.  He was tired but felt he had done what he could and now it’s time for the next generation to carry the fight.  He had no reason to feel ashamed of his actions and he would face the elders with his head held high.

The points of light in the sky danced in his eyes. Each a glimmering jewel offered as enticement of what treasures he may find in the otherworld.

It was time.

He walked out of the observation deck down to the hangars. One last trip in his Vagabond.

Far behind where the veteran soldier stood,  unobserved in a dark alcove, a new recruit. He had barely known the man that stood there but felt the sorrow and pain that years of struggle have loaded on his shoulders.

He walked up to the observation window and whispered to himself as much as to the memory of the pilot that had just been standing there.

“Farewell brave warrior.
Your fight will continue – This I Swear.
Go now and rest a well deserved rest.
Go home and guide us in our struggle from the halls of the elders.
You have been, and are,  an inspiration to us all.”

CSM: I’ve voted, have you?

[OOC]  I voted a few days ago but saw Hallan Turek had posted this and liked the idea very much.

eve-csm-poster-med1

Go exercise your right to vote today.  CSM is unique amongst MMOs and whether or not you agree with their direction in the past you are voting on the future and you have the opportunity to affect change in game through your choice in a candidate.

I was torn between two candidates and wish we had more than one vote (primary/secondary) but such is life.   I voted for Heartstone .  My reasons are many, but I would like to see more love given to low sec and to FW.

Research, learn who the candidates are and make an informed decision based on your play style and needs.

Remember change is inevitable, whether or not the changes favour your play style could be determined by your vote.
